Our blog has been looking a bit, well blogless recently – so, with bonfire night just around the corner, what better way to re-launch it than with some help from one of our very own moorer’s rockets…Steve Bennett https://starchaser.co.uk

Tempest-4 liftoff

Wow, that thing’s got more punch than Donald Trump & Kim Jong-Un put together!

But, on a quieter note, and one more in keeping with this season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, it’s time to reflect on some of the things that make Swanley Bridge Marina so very special…

  • OUR MOORERS (past & present) – you bring the marina to life and contribute to the evolving Swanley Bridge Marina Story, we thank you all and hope you enjoy our marina as much as we enjoy you being here.
  • GREAT LOCATION – This tranquil water space nestles deep in the heart of the Cheshire countryside, at the start of the Llangollen Canal, voted the prettiest canal in the UK, which culminates in that fantastic piece of engineering and World Heritage Site the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. Check out their great website for events and places to see and things to do on your canal holiday when you get there. www.pontcysyllte-aqueduct.co.uk

  • OUR AMENITIES – we may not have a café, but we offer something more…PEACE & QUIET…a place to relax into, surrounded by fields, cows, woods and wildlife.

LEOPARD in tree

Swanley Bridge Marina relaxes my parts the other marinas can’t get to!

And to make sure we don’t disturb his peace and quiet, we’ve located the DIY sheds and gritblasting shed away from the marina – even your boat might think it’s gone on holiday after it’s trundled down the long driveway to the sheds…

DIY HOLIDAY

Here you can find D & J Engineering – D is for Danny – who is to boats what Noah was to arks: he can hoist them, stretch them, plate them, weld them, and pretty well fabricate them into any shape you fancy…

BOAT CAR

Bet this will be a tight squeeze through Hurleston locks!

Or maybe you and your boat want a change of colours – check out Willow Boat painters www.willowboats.co.uk and ask for Sally-the-Palette-of-Paint.

BOAT PAINTING

You see, Autumn is to Maintenance what Spring is to Cleaning! So in view of that fact, your thoughts may turn to blacking – a subject which some people find as boring and tedious as the Brexit negotiations, but arguably yielding a better result! Take a look at the song on www.waterwaysongs.co.uk/MyWaterwayWorld/bottom_blacking.htm – So, repeat after me…BLACKING IS GOOD FOR MY BOAT, BUT NOT NECESSARILY GOOD FOR ME! However, this is essential maintenance which you can either do yourself, or let US do it for you at extremely competitive rates.

But if you’re in a quandary about which protective coatings to use, there are many experts out there who can advise, a quick search on the web churns up hundreds – or you can visit the following web sites: www.boatpaint.co.uk ; www.rylardpaints.co.uk ; or for more independent advice and related articles visit www.towpathtalk.co.uk ; www.waterwaysworld.com ; canalboat.co.uk

Phew, after all that serious stuff, it’s time to end on a less tiring, but equally as important, feel-good note, which is, as the poet laureate Sir John Bitumen would applaud…In praise of Calves!!

NEW BORN BROWN CALF

Here’s lookin’ at you babe…

Bet you didn’t see that one coming – well Swanley Bridge Marina is part of Swanley Hall Farm and both are proud to sponsor www.macmillan.org.uk and ask you to sponsor a calf  to help raise funds for Macmillan at £5 per calf – we held a Macmillan coffee morning on the 30th September to raise money for this worthy organisation, we’ll keep you informed of the final amount we and the calves raised in the next blog.

OK, I think the rocket fuel has just about run out for this month’s blog, so until next time…Cruise safely, enjoy the journey and check out the tweets for quick updates.
