Chirk

A tranquil 40 hour cruise to the Welsh town of Chirk makes for a great week’s cruising. Passing through some of our popular cruising routes, Wrenbury, Whitchurch and Ellesmere, there are many places to eat, drink and stay along the way. When in Chirk there are numerous things to see and do, from visiting the 700 year old castle to the Berwyn Mountain Range.

Whilst on the Canal network at Chirk, you will have the opportunity to cross a 70′ aqueduct, similar to the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. It was built by Thomas Telford and has been standing since 1801 with a total of 10 arches. Also on the Canal at Chirk you will find the ‘Darkie Tunnel’ a 1,200ft long tunnel that runs straight after the Aqueduct on your way into Chirk.

If you are looking for somewhere to eat or drink whilst in Chirk, there are a number of great pubs and restaurants both in the town itself and dotted alongside the canal. Whilst in Chirk a trip to the castle is too good to miss. Now owned by the National Trust, Chirk Castle was built by Edward I in 1295. Chirk castle is also home to an award winning 5.5 acre garden that is a delight to see in full bloom during the summer months, there is also an onsite tearoom to help you enjoy a full day out.
