Cruising the canals in Autumn – what could be better? It’s a Harvest Festival of treats for all the senses; the sight of trees bedecked in their gold, red, orange and yellow leaf finery. The sound of leaves blowing in the wind. The taste of apples and cider. The smell of bonfires and fungi and freshly turned soil. The feel of dew spangled cobwebs across your face. The sight of mists rising from the water first thing in the morning. Yes, Autumn is the best time to cruise.

You may want to consider linking your trip to a couple of events scheduled for October:

Saturday 6th October:                           Blackberry Fair – Whitchurch Town Centre

A festive medley of crafts; stalls; music and food from 9am onwards. For more information go to http://www.blackberryfair.co.uk/#whatson

Whitchurch Town is just a short walk from the main Llangollen canal and there is a winding hole on the Whitchurch arm – a lot easier to arrive by boat than it is by car!

The other event you may want to see is Spooktacula – the UK’s biggest Halloween themed fireworks display, this year over 4000 fireworks will be set off!! The event takes place Saturday 27 October in the field right next to the aqueduct – very convenient if you’re moored up and want a ring side view!
