Through February and March the team was working at Hurleston making improvements to the quayside below the bottom lock. Improvements were also made to the towpath between the lock and the bridge on the main line.
The stop plank shed was cleared of the encroaching hedge, repaired and treated with Cuprinol. Alongside this work the towpath was cleared and levelled ready for surfacing. The narrow location and steep approaches proved challenging to the team!
Inspite of the restricted working environment surfacing to the area progressed concurrently with with the surfacing of the towpath. This kept the motorised barrow very busy!
Extra painted safety lower rails were installed to sections of fencing on the towpath side. The team operated lock 4 whilst the quay was out of use and 27 boats were assisted. The quayside was topped and compacted and to minimise erosion and to make the quayside safer, a revetment was constructed and painted and the bank was landscaped.
Thanks to the hard work of the volunteers and the willing assistance of CRT staff, the project was completed to schedule for the coming busy boating season.
